Long All-Purpose Bio

A.J. Larrieu grew up in small-town Louisiana, where she spent her summers working in her family's bakery, exploring the swamps around her home and reading science fiction and fantasy novels under the covers. She attended Louisiana State University, where she majored in biochemistry and wrote bad poetry on the side. Despite pursuing a Ph.D. in biology, she couldn't kick the writing habit, and she wrote her first novel in graduate school. It wasn't very good, but she kept at it, and by the time she graduated, she had an addiction to writing sexy urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Her second manuscript, Twisted Miracles, was a finalist in RWA's Golden Heart® competition in 2012. The book kicks off her dark, romantic urban fantasy series, The Shadowminds, which follows a group of humans with psychic powers through New Orleans' supernatural underworld. A.J. is currently a working biophysicist in San Francisco, where she lives with her family and too many books.

Short Southern Bio

A.J. Larrieu was born and raised in small-town Louisiana, and yes, she did have an alligator in her back yard growing up. It was a small one. She spent most of her summers knee deep in the mud exploring the swamps or nose-deep in a book exploring other worlds, so it's no surprise she grew up to write paranormal romance and urban fantasy set in the South. These days, she lives in San Francisco with her husband and son, and even though she's been in the Bay Area for over a decade, she still misses those pounding Gulf Coast thunderstorms. Her debut novel, the first in her Shadowmind Series, will be published by Carina Press in Spring of 2014.

Short Nerdy Bio

A. J. Larrieu is a graduate of Louisiana State University, where she majored in biochemistry. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in biology from U. C. Berkeley. Currently she lives in San Francisco, where she's a biophysicist by day and writer of sexy urban fantasies by night. She's not afraid of math, but she's terrified of sports, especially ones that involve moving balls. Her debut novel, Twisted Miracles, was a finalist for RWA's Golden Heart® competition and will be published by Carina Press in Spring of 2014. She lives in San Francisco with her family.
